GENERAL MEETING
January 13, 2010
Meeting Place: Ohana East Hotel
Commence: 10:05 a.m.
Collect/Pledge of Allegiance: Kaliko Soon, 1st Vice President
Sponsor: On behalf of the I.E.H.A Hawaii Chapter, President John Yamamoto thanked Alan Naito, General Manager Ohana East Hotel for sponsoring today's meeting.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Madeline Chang reported the current financial status as shown in the enclosed worksheets. Bank balance as of November 30, 2010 is $2,385.75.
Secretary's Report: There's a correction to the November meeting minutes under treasurer's report; delete the last statement stating "Financial report will stand for audit." Minutes will stand as corrected.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership: President John Yamamoto is currently contacting members whose membership expired to encourage them to renew their membership.
Education/Information & Resources: Chairperson Rose Galera encouraged membership to get certified.
Community Service: Chairperson Gary Nushida informed membership of the next linen donation drive on June 2010 - exact date TBA.
Publicity and Public Relations Development: Chairperson Elaine Terry presented: 1) the 2010 IEHA Hawaii Chapter Calendar as a fundraiser. Fifty copies were available at $20 each and expected to yield close to $1000 to the chapter treasury. The calendar includes photos of members through the past year at various events. 2) IEHA postcards were distributed to membership which will serve as a reminder to membership of the chapter events and meeting schedule. 3) I.E.H.A. quarterly newsletter will be released on February 2010.
Next Meeting: 2nd Vice President Carleton Yanaga encouraged the membership to mark their calendar for the March 10, 2010 chapter meeting that will be held at the Kahala Hotel & Resort. The Guest Speaker is Kelvin Bloom - Chairman, Hawaii Tourism Authority and President of Aston Hotels & Resorts.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
New Education Chair: President John Yamamoto appointed Virgil Kodep as the new chair of the Education/Information and Resources Committee.
Standing Rules and Procedures: Chair Madeline Chang reminded membership to pick-up a signed copy of the revised SR & P dated November 29, 2009.
NEW BUSINESS
Rummage Sale: Madeline Chang presented to membership the idea of a rummage sale as a fundraiser. Membership was encouraged to donate unwanted but usable items. Please contact Madeline or Teresa for more information.
PROGRAM: 2nd Vice President Carleton Yanaga introduced the guest speaker, Anna Elento-Sneed, Attorney at Law, Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing Lawyers. The membership benefited immensely by Anna’s wealth of knowledge about Labor Law, which contributed to the many interesting questions posed by the members and guests.
